ABSTRACT
Geographically Turkey is in both Asia and Europe. Turkish society values its traditions while adapting to modern living conditions. In the traditional Turkish family, the father is the head of the household and the mother is the caretaker of the children, although this structure varies according to the education of the spouses, urban versus rural origins of the family, working status of the spouses and economic conditions. There are no direct translations of the terms “abuse” and “abusive” in the Turkish language. Harassment (taciz) and misuse (istismar) would be the closest in meaning.
