ABSTRACT

The traditional mission of the school is to teach students to understand the natural, human, and social worlds to know who they are; how they can participate in public life; what their responsibilities are to the natural, human, and social worlds; and thereby to find fulfillment by participating in these worlds. In this time of transition, a fundamental task of educational administrators is to infuse that traditional mission of the school with a new meaning that melds the emerging perspectives from the sciences and humanities with the truths behind the old certainties.
