ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 demonstrated the different commitment foci generally used in multiple commitment research. Naturally, not all the above forms figured in every study. The use of given set of commitment foci depended on the research question at hand. In some cases only two commitment forms were applied, for example, in an investigation of dual commitment to the union and company (Angle & Perry, 1986; Johnson etal., 1999). In others, it was commitment to the job and the organization (Blau & Boal, 1987, 1989; Keller, 1997) or commitment to the profession and organization (Aranya & Ferris, 1983, 1984; Wallace, 1993, 1995b). But there is a growing tendency to use more than two commitment forms in one study (Becker, 1992; Cohen, 1993a, 1999a, 1999b; Knoop, 1995; Randall & Cote, 1991; Riley, Lock-wood, Powell-Perry, & Baker, 1998), a trend that will probably continue.
