ABSTRACT

Although many Chicanas do not consider or publicly acknowledge themselves to be feminists, we find that their research, clinical practice, teaching, activism, and attitudes indicate the contrary. It appears that the “F” word remains taboo, even today. In light of the history of elitism and racism by White feminists and the retaliation

from Chicana/o communities during the Chicana/o movement, we concede that feminism remains controversial and, in many instances, unappealing. This begs the question: Does feminism have any utility for the field of Chicana/o psychology?
