ABSTRACT

The author discusses the work with Jay and the sixth-grade parent teacher conference with Jennifer. The DARE program was Officer Butlers special project, and he was eager to talk about it. Officer Butler asserted that there are no real problems in Axleton related to economic or racial diversity, everybody sees each other just as people. Ruby Lee as director of a non-profit agency, Axleton Community Aid, Ruby oversees 120 volunteers who help her provide services to those in needs in the community. Ruby also observed that Axleton is racially divided, and when asked what she meant she explained that residents of the central areas of Axleton, near downtown, are nearly all White, whereas many residents of outlying areas, particularly Sanguine Hill, are Black.
