ABSTRACT

Perhaps it seems strange to write a chapter that focuses on groups for a book that is dedicated to Bob Wyer and his work. After all, Bob was surely firmly entrenched in the Attitudes and Social Cognition section of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, rather than in the Interpersonal Relations and Group Processes section. Bob’s research focused heavily on the perception of individuals by individuals. Yet there are clearly three ways in which this chapter is very much tied to Bob’s work and relies heavily on that work.
