ABSTRACT

As adults, we tell stories about our lives and our relationships to others around us. Sometimes others prompt us for these stories, perhaps by asking us how we first met our spouse or best friend. Other times, we spontaneously decide to tell others a story about our experiences. We also might notice that those around us tend to present their lives in story form. At the dinner table, families swap stories about interesting things that happened to them during the day. At high school reunions, groups of friends gather to revisit the stories of the “good old days,” and catch up on tales of what has happened to their classmates in the intervening years.
