ABSTRACT
In our view, the most important step forward in event history analysis, with respect to the empirical study of social change, has been to explicitly measure and include time-dependent covariates in transition rate models. In such cases, covariates can change their values over process time. Time- dependent covariates can be qualitative or quantitative, and may stay constant for finite periods of time or change continuously.
