ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the content development process in children’s media and the impressive changes in the landscape over the past 20 years. Within this time frame, four striking changes have occurred:

• A dramatic increase in available programming. • More diverse types of quality programming from an educational perspective. • A significantly broader range of program providers. • Expansion of media choices to include the computer, the Internet, CD-ROMs

and DVDs, and the VCR.
