ABSTRACT
Just as testing and evaluation can be challenging aspects of teaching, the assignment of grades presents perturbing dilemmas. Final course grades become part of a permanent record that can affect students’ lives well past graduation and, therefore, have an ethical dimension. The cases in this chapter describe issues surrounding the grading process, including the appropriate criteria for determining grades, consistency in grading, and the proper use of the “I” (incomplete) grade.
