ABSTRACT

The use, overuse, and misuse of students as teaching assistants has received widespread attention, in part due to the publicity surrounding the unionization of graduate assistants on university campuses. The last decade has also witnessed the development of extensive training programs designed to support the professional development of graduate students. These programs have helped alleviate the problem of inappropriate reliance on graduate assistants and have focused on preparing them for increasing levels of responsibility commensurate with their progress.
