ABSTRACT

By the time the completed piece is linked together, it is easy to think that the project is finished and there is no more to do. However this will be missing out an important element of the work which will extend students’ critical awareness around their own compositions. Throughout the project the students have been asked to think about the intended audience by making the pieces easy to understand, as clear as possible and attractive to look at. They have had to consider interactivity by designing game features and giving the user control and choice. The thoughts about audience response, however, were fairly abstract. Their classmates may have commented on aspects of the presentations during the process, but this was criticism of an unfinished piece which they themselves may have been involved with as co-authors. At this stage in the process, where seemingly all is finished, students need to set out to test their presentation with an outside audience who are unfamiliar with the project. This is to ascertain both whether their piece works adequately and whether their concepts of audience were accurate.
