ABSTRACT

Multimedia authoring is usually seen as a presentation medium for older students, however it can be used to good effect with young children too. One Hackney nursery school (3–4 year olds) makes multimedia stories about the children in the nursery. The teacher takes photographs of the students with a digital camera and transfers them into a multimedia authoring program. She then works with the students and they write a sentence together about the picture. The teacher animates the pictures of each child moving across the screen or jumping up and down to go with a recorded voice-over. These can then be accessed by the students clicking on photographs of themselves.
