ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the psychological background to multisensory user interaction. An overview is given using a model of human information processing covering the role of memory, attention, and the processes of perception and comprehension. The aim is to provide background knowledge that is useful in the design process in its own right, as well as forming the basis for many guidelines.
