ABSTRACT

Our job is to help the learner to learn. In Chapter 4 we defined the output state as a set of goals describing what the student should be able to do with the mental model (s) that he or she is building during a particular educational component. This is the destination for our educational journey. In Chapter 5 we discussed the need to assess the input state (the point of origin for the journey) so that we have an idea of the kind of help that the learner needs to reach the targeted output state. We can now focus on what lies between the input and the output states by addressing the question, “what kinds of learning experiences can we offer students to help them move from the input to the output state?”
