ABSTRACT

In its February 15, 2000 edition, the New York Times included a lengthy discussion of “When women find love is fatal” (story by Erica Goode, pp. D1, D6). This article described three women who, in the course of 48 hours, had been the targets of homicidal attacks by men with whom they had had romantic relationships. The article noted that such events are common throughout the United States. FBI statistics showed that 32% of the 3,419 women killed in the United States in 1998 died at the hands of a husband, a former husband, a boyfriend, or a former boyfriend.
