ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses two leading ladies, Fran Wilde and Vicki Buck. Local politics were the building blocks that helped shape both Fran Wilde's leadership of Tradenz and her directorship skills. She made sure that she was available to address issues of a major political party in New Zealand. Formerly a Labour cabinet minister and Wellington mayor, Fran Wilde is CEO of Tradenz, a director of ANZ Banking Group and Brierley Investments, chair of the Wellington Stadium Development Trust, and member of the Project K Trust Board. She formerly chaired Housing New Zealand, Community Housing, Victoria Link, and was a director of Tourism Wellington. Vicki Buck was a leader and enjoyed leadership with laughter. She sees her role as team manager, to empower a creative thinking system to turn institutionalized bureaucracy on its head. Buck was elected to the Christchurch City Council when she was 19 years old, while she was studying local government finance for her MA degree.
