ABSTRACT

Belenky, M., Blythe, C., Goldberger, N., & Tarule, J. (1986). Women’s ways of knowing: The development of self, voice, and mind. New York: Basic Books.

This now-classic research study explores women’s thinking, documenting the numerous contextual factors that come into play as women negotiate living in a complex, male-dominated society. The findings highlight the importance for organizing classrooms in ways that respond to the numerous styles of interaction that (male and female) students use as they become increasingly responsible for creating their lives.
