ABSTRACT

Categorical data occur frequently in the social and behavioral sciences, where information about marital status, sex, occupation, ethnicity, and so on is frequently of interest. In such cases the measurement scale consists of a set of categories. Two specific examples are as follows.

Political philosophy: liberal, moderate, conservative.
