ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter might be described as “intuitive epistemology,” what people know about knowledge, knowing, and learning, as acquired from their experiences in everyday life and in school. The study of students’ epistemological ideas has become increasingly active in recent years (see Hofer & Pintrich, 1997). In general, this research validated the principle that students have ideas about knowledge that affect their learning in significant ways. We continue in that direction.
