ABSTRACT
This scenario represents an extreme and tragic, and thankfully rare, outcome of the struggle many parents experience as they choose childcare with little time or knowledge for making satisfactory choices. Yet in 1996, 3.1million children in the United States were reported abused, and helping families to choose high quality and supportive care might well decrease the extent of this social trauma.
