ABSTRACT

As with most educational practices, out-of-level testing has gone in and out of favor over

the years. Testing a student at a level above or below his or her grade level is referred to

variously as out-of-level testing, off-level testing, functional-level testing, and

instructional-level testing. Variations of the practice emerge in tailored testing and

adaptive testing.
