ABSTRACT

Infrastructure is a frequently used term that is rarely defined in detail. Many think of infrastructure as buildings, roads, telecommunications systems, and so forth. When applied to information technology (IT), infrastructure is usually thought of as simply the telecommunications infrastructure, although it is rarely funded in the same way as other campus infrastructure components such as buildings, water supply, and power distribution systems. However, in practice, IT infrastructure is much more complicated and contains many more components than just the cable and wiring systems used to transmit voice, data, and video signals.
