ABSTRACT

Developmental psychologists have noted that violence does not simply “appear” in previously healthy adults; it is an adult behavioral disorder that is preceded by disturbed behaviors during childhood (Denno, 1990; Dilillo, 2001; Herrenkohl et al., 2001; Herrera & McCloskey, 2001; Hunt & JoeLaidler, 2001; Lewis et al., 1985; Marks, Glaser, Glass, & Home, 2001; Ornduff, 2001; Weiss, 1990; Weisz, Martin, Walter, & Fernandez, 1991; Zagar, Arbit, Hughes, Busell, & Busch, 1989). Thus, understanding what behaviors precede adult violence may enable society to prevent such violence before it ever happens.
