ABSTRACT

On January 10th, 1995, a young man brought his bleeding girlfriend to an emergency room in Massachusetts. The young woman explicitly denied that her boyfriend had stabbed her in the chest, and died 20 minutes later. In earlier decades of the 20th century, that might have been the end of this case. But in 1996, a prosecutor vehemently contended that despite the victim’s declaration, there was evidence that her boyfriend had in fact been the perpetrator of this murder. On June 26th, a jury agreed and found John McIntyre guilty of first-degree murder.
