ABSTRACT
On Monday, July 7, 1980, the temperature in Cobden, Illinois rose, as it had for the past week, to 110° in the shade. No one could remember it ever being this hot before. Many blamed it on atmospheric changes caused by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in Washington state.
