ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the numerous efforts made to evaluate the effectiveness of the Title I Compensatory Education Program from the 1960s through the present The principal findings of these evaluations are considered, as well as the changing nature of Title I evaluations and the various conditions that have led to different approaches for assessing the program. Furthermore, efforts made by stakeholders to increase Title I accountability are traced and discussed.
