ABSTRACT

From the standpoint of education, this chapter and the one that follows are the two most important chapters in this book. These two chapters contain the theory relevant to the things that educators can do to improve instruction and learning, that is, teaching/learning relevant to verbal level is one root cause of high and low reading achievement. More specifically, this particular chapter will present the case that one of the main ways that educators can improve reading achievement is to increase the verbal knowledge of students.
