ABSTRACT

A feature of the ideal scientific method that is always hailed as most admirable is parsimony. To reduce a mass of facts to a single underlying factor or even to just a few concepts and constructs is an ongoing scientific concern. In psychology, the statistical technique known as, factor analysis is most often associated with the attempt to comprehend the structure of intelligence and the dimensions of personality. The intellectual struggles that accompany discussion of these matters are a very long way from being over.
