ABSTRACT
In reflecting upon our experiences in designing collaboration technologies over the past 10 years, two key design principles have struck us repeatedly, and we believe their importance is still not widely appreciated. We call these two principles the principles of semiformal systems and radical tailorability. In this chapter, we describe the history of our work and how it illustrates the application and importance of these two principles.
