ABSTRACT

In a volume that celebrates the long career of David Magnusson, it is not inappropriate to talk of some scientific tasks confronting personality psychology. Magnusson’s work has been substantively most influential. In my belief, however, his deeper contribution has been to provide a consolidating, holistic perspective on the field that, besides identifying important accomplishments to date, also points the path that must be taken if we are to advance our common science (Magnusson, 1990, 1995, 1996; Magnusson & Törestad, 1993).
