ABSTRACT

Since 1993, Tom Trabasso, Nancy Stein, and the two senior authors have met several times a year to eat, drink, and talk psychology, especially the psychology of family conflict. We have rendezvoused in Chicago, Waterloo, Colorado, Quebec, and Israel to formulate research and grant proposals. Our joint work examines how young children and their parents understand and resolve conflicts. Conflict is inevitable in even the happiest of families and it is often not settled to the mutual satisfaction of the protagonists (Vuchinich, 1987). We seek to understand why family disputes are so difficult to resolve and to develop procedures that facilitate their successful resolution.
