ABSTRACT
Not only can objects be attributed with significance according to their conformity with schemas of memory, they can also be interpreted against a symbolic canon of meaning. This is a fearfully complicated and controversial subject and only a superficial discussion is possible within a general discourse of this kind. In this context objects are attributed with meaning for reasons which may have nothing to do with their cognitive significance.
