ABSTRACT

This chapter examines various media entertainment preferences within the conceptual framework of the psychobiological model of personality developed by H. Eysenck (1947, 1990). First, several commonalities between contemporary massmedia theories and personality theories are highlighted. Next, empirical evidence of linkages between three personality dimensions-psychoticism, extraversion, and neuroticism-and several measures ofmedia entertainment preferences is detailed. Overall, the data provide informative initial sketches of distinctive mediapreference profiles for each personality dimension.
