ABSTRACT
For some researchers, controlled experiments constitute the gold standard for assessing the effectiveness of health communication. This perspective might be appropriate for clinical trials in which medical interventions are well under the control of the investigator, as would be true for comparisons of the relative effectiveness of lumpectomies or radical mastectomies for breast cancer.
