ABSTRACT
The producer’s desk is one of two “hubs” in a television newsroom. The other hub is the control room where the news program is assembled and transmitted.
A popular term used to describe the producer’s working area is pod. Many broadcast newsrooms put the producer’s desk, with its computer terminal, multiline telephone, and other communication devices at the focus of a cluster of desks and workstations, so that there can be both spoken and visual contact among members of the team. A producer generally has a high degree of contact with the assignment desk, which sends out reporter-videographer crews and keeps track of breaking stories. Other people who communicate frequently with the producer include, associate or assistant producers, writers, researchers, production assistants, video editors, the satellite feed coordinator, the operations supervisor, graphics personnel, the promotion staff, and as the newscast time approaches, reporters, field producers, anchors, and directors.
