Scenario 1: A professor sees Curtis in the campus dining hall and asks how he likes the

class. The student ignores the tenured faculty member altogether. Perplexed, the professor

gets his lunch and returns to the department office. He shares the puzzling incident with a

graduate teaching assistant who informs the professor that Curtis is deaf.
