ABSTRACT

Students often come to developmental reading courses or learning centers at the college

level to seek help. In these programs, the focus of instruction may range from basic

literacy development to the critical reading necessary for upper division and

graduate-level material. Usually, at some point in the instructional process, students are

taught strategies that can help them learn while reading; that is, they learn how to “study

read.” This chapter reviews the literature on teaching students strategies for study reading

college level material.
