ABSTRACT

In chapter 7 we discussed specific research designs, such as the posttestonly randomized experimental design and the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. These specific research designs help us visualize the operatzzons of a study, especially for internal validity. In the present chapter, we consider general design classifications. General design classification is especially important for determining the proper statistical approach to be used in data analysis. Within the randomized experimental, quasi-experimental, and also comparative approaches, all designs must fit into one of three categories or labels that we call general design classification.
