ABSTRACT

In this chapter we review, step by step, the process of analyzing an article and then evaluating it by using the research validity scales described in earlier chapters. As we move through this process, we will mention key concepts and diagrams from earlier chapters that we have found useful in understanding research and the process of evaluating it. This evaluation is based on the answers to 16 questions (Table 24.1) that provide the information needed to analyze and evaluate the four aspects of research validity. The questions, and your critique, will focus on the method section of an article but will also include questions about the remainder of the article, including the title and conclusions. This evaluation draws on and synthesizes many parts of this book, so we will refer to the appropriate chapters.
