Modern man is very much a creature of the city. In most of the developed countries of the world, 70 per cent of the population or more live in towns, while in developing countries the migration from rural areas continues apace. ^1* Regardless of the state of development, the city is the modern and future way of life, which also transcends political beliefs: The modern city is a feature of both Western liberal democratic and Eastern communist political systems.
