ABSTRACT
This chapter describes our general approach to integrating basic research in cognitive science and advances in training technology to the domain of command and control team performance. Integration is an ongoing goal, as military research demands that scientific rigor be focused on operational problem solving. This necessitates continual interplay to balance the requirements and payoffs of basic research to those of our operational customers. Here, we describe our efforts to develop synthetic team training environments, using PC-based platforms, as analogues of actual operational performance domains.
