ABSTRACT

Safely and successfully piloting an aircraft is one of the most difficult tasks a person can perform. Although pilots talk about having the “right stuff,” defined as an almost mystical set of skills and abilities that good pilots naturally possess, experience has shown that almost anyone can learn to fly safely with the proper training. We believe it is true that some pilots do have a natural head start in being proficient at piloting due to some innate set of cognitive and motor skills. However, we also believe that quality instruction can make it possible for the vast majority of the population to fly safely.
