ABSTRACT
The U.S. military, unlike civilian America, has enjoyed relatively peaceful and harmonious working relations among its racial and ethnic groups since the late 1970s. This is evidenced in the relative lack of openly expressed racial hostility and violence, evenhanded administration of justice and civil discipline, and greatly improved equity in promotion and other vocational opportunity. It may be worthwhile to investigate possibilities for transfer of this phenomenon to the civilian sector. 1
