ABSTRACT

Sexual intercourse is of concern in this volume for several reasons. First, sexual intercourse by juveniles can be considered an adult type of behavior, which is age-inappropriate to some extent. Second, boys’ sexual intercourse can be viewed as a risk-taking behavior; there is the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and the risk of impregnating female partners. Third, sexual intercourse by adolescents can be viewed as another problem behavior, but without the criminal victimization that is often associated with conduct problems.
