ABSTRACT

So far, we have reviewed different outcomes in separate chapters. We now bring together information about the interrelationships among different types of problem behavior and examine the extent that some types of problem behavior are more related to other types of problem behaviors, and whether there are age-related shifts in the patterns of interrelationships among problem behaviors. Second, we examine the degree to which each explanatory factor is associated with a diversity of outcomes. This issue is of great importance for the evaluation of a general problem theory (discussed in chap. 1 and more in detail in chap. 12). Information about general explanatory factors that apply across several different child problem behaviors is of potential importance for interventions, because targeting such factors could have a broad impact on a diversity of outcomes.
