ABSTRACT

Ken Donelson begins with an argument against list-making, but eventually he does what we all have to do: He makes a list of his own. The resulting canon for four years of high school English gives us something to think about, a starting point for discussion of what literature we might want to assign. More important perhaps is Donelson’s discussion of why he chose these works. As you read, think about your own personal canon and your own reasons for Including this work or that.
