ABSTRACT
It is always difficult to look at the current state of a field and prescribe the direction that
field should take for the future. What we have attempted to do in this chapter is to
characterize the directions current research in technology and literacy have taken and,
using that as a guide, suggest where future research should go. We have also attempted to
be more systematic about laying out some research agendas, uncovering what we see as
some of the often hidden assumptions that have been associated with previous attempts to
do so. Finally, we describe the implementation of technology in one school as a source
for questions that literacy and technology research must address.
