ABSTRACT

Men's cancer is a hot topic in the emerging focus on men's health issues. This focus is complementary to research on women's health, and it contributes to a fuller understanding of the gendered nature of health and illness (Sabo & Gordon, 1995). Although masculinity is a central dimension of men's health and illness, age, class, and race are also important. This chapter examines the ways in which male cancer experiences are constructed within these social contexts.
