Today, however, most Americans spend more time with radio and television than they do at any other activity, including working and sleeping, and most Americans get most of their news from television. Obviously, we are dealing here with a phenomenon that is not only relatively recent but extremely important, one whose cultural impact is almost inestimable. Why, then, do we know so little about its development?
